In this exciting first session, we’ll empower young writers to create their main character and set the scene for their epic adventure! Participants will embark on a journey to design their hero, exploring vital aspects such as appearance, personality, strengths, weaknesses, and backstory. We’ll draw inspiration from beloved characters in literature and film, showcasing what makes a hero memorable and relatable. Next, we’ll dive into the art of setting creation. Kids will discover how to design captivating worlds, whether it’s an enchanted forest, a futuristic city, or a mystical realm. We’ll encourage them to think about sensory details—what do they see, hear, and smell? This will help bring their worlds to life! To wrap up the session, each child will have the opportunity to draw or describe their hero and the unique world where their adventure unfolds. This hands-on activity will spark creativity and lay the foundation for their storytelling journey.

Crafting The Quest

In this action-packed session, we’ll teach young writers how to create a compelling adventure or quest for their hero! Participants will be introduced to the classic story structure—beginning, middle, and end—focusing on how to build suspense and excitement throughout their tale. We’ll explore how to hook readers and keep them engaged with twists and turns. Next, we’ll guide kids in brainstorming challenges their hero must face and crafting a memorable antagonist. We’ll discuss how these obstacles not only drive the story forward but also reveal the hero’s true character and strengths. To culminate the session, each child will map out a simple story arc, identifying three key events in their hero’s journey. This interactive activity will help them visualize their adventure and prepare for the writing ahead!

Participants will learn how to build tension leading up to a pivotal moment where their hero faces their greatest challenge. We’ll discuss techniques for creating suspense and making the climax impactful. Next, we’ll explore various ways to resolve the story, highlighting how the hero has changed or learned valuable lessons throughout their adventure. This discussion will help kids understand the importance of a meaningful ending. To wrap up the session, each child will write the final scene of their story. We’ll also allow time for a short sharing session, giving them the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and inspire one another.
